Lawrence is Head of Procurement at Transamerica, a diversified financial services company that provides insurance, savings, investment, and retirement solutions that empower millions of customers across the US. He was inducted into the SIG Sourcing Supernova Hall of Fame in 2018 for visionary leadership in strategic sourcing, procurement, supplier innovation, and digital transformation. With 35 years of industry experience, he designed enterprise-wide technology sourcing strategies, built global sourcing and vendor management programs from the ground up, and institutionalized world-class practices that earned the prestigious Global Excellence in Outsourcing award from IAOP, three Future of Sourcing innovation awards from SIG, and a Boeing Knowledge Network award for Talent Management, among other honors. While primarily focused on the buy-side, he has also supported multibillion-dollar business development efforts, including Boeing’s largest IT sale.

A member of the SIG University Advisory Board, IAOP Think Tank, and Forrester Sourcing & Vendor Management Leadership Board, he helped create many of the industry’s leading practices and regularly advances thought leadership as a keynote and breakout speaker at conferences. He has been a guest on nationally syndicated and local radio shows (e.g., The Jim Bohannon Show, Biz Talk Radio), television programs (e.g., Fox Morning News), and podcasts (e.g., Art of Procurement, Negotiations Ninja Podcast, Sourcing Industry Landscape), and has also been interviewed by reporters from Information Week, Le Matin, CPO Strategy, Forbes, and Computerworld, among other publications.

The bestselling author of 27 books, he co-wrote The Contract Professional’s Playbook and contributed to the Outsourcing Professional Body of Knowledge and Strategic Sourcing in the New Economy, among other works. Collaborating with Sound Partnership Strategies and Third-Party Risk Institute, he developed the acclaimed Contract Professional’s Playbook, De-Risking Your Contract, and RFx Response Mastery eLearning programs.

He is heavily involved in serving his community too, volunteering as a mentor with the Global Mentorship Initiative, MSIS program at the University of Washington, and other worthy organizations where he counsels college graduates entering the workforce, helps military personnel transition to the corporate world, and guides early career professionals through interviews and job progressions. Sam has been in Sourcing/Procurement/Subcontract management for nearly 10 years.  Previously at Lockheed Martin for 7+ years, Sam has lead sourcing on NASA, Satellite, and DoD programs.  He was the main POC for the NIRCam instrument which is part of the upcoming James Webb Space telescope.  He supported the SBIRS satellite constellation program and then went on to lead a team supporting the THAAD missile defense program.  Sam was excited to bring his knowledge and experience from a mature procurement organization to build out the procurement process and team at Oculus.

Lys Hardy and Susy Mendoza lead the two Indirect Procurement & Vendor Management Teams at REI.  Lys’ team supports Supply Chain, Real Estate, and Corporate Services.  Lys comes to REI with 18 years of Operations, Transportation, and Supply Chain experience.  Her background includes support of Starbucks’ Supply Chain Procurement needs, Operations at zulily during its start-up period, and various other roles with other retailers and supply chain partners.  She likes long walks on the beach, and even longer walks in the woods.  Susy’s group supports Technology, Marketing and Shared Services. Susy is a recovering attorney, having served as Senior Counsel at Nordstrom for over 8 years. She also supported Product Management at Nordstrom.com, operations for a financial institution and managed two wineries. She travels every chance she gets and has an ongoing obsession with the West Wing Weekly.

Prior to this, Marcus served as the director leading a procurement operations group that sourced services to enable the company's corporate operations; including those supporting employee benefits, human resources, freight & logistics and financial functions with a total spend portfolio of just over two-billion. In addition, responsibility included managing a service delivery organization delivering in excess of 180,000 transactions annually while maintaining a positive customer satisfaction score.
