There is no doubt that the pandemic helped elevate general awareness and understanding of supply chain, sourcing, and procurement operations. More people are learning to appreciate how our discipline requires deep and dynamic expertise in stakeholder engagement, industry research, project management, risk mitigation, and negotiations. Perhaps we will be able to ride that reputational wave for a few more years, but really, we should not rest on our laurels. Pretty soon, if not already, we will begin to hear all of the same misperceptions about the procurement function.
